Madur or Mat in Bengal is made from Madurkathi, a plant reed. Madurkathi is a rhizome based plant which is cultivated in swamps in the Midnapore districts of Bengal. These are woven to make beautiful eco friendly mats, which last generations! Most of the weaving is done by hand and a miniscule use looms. These come in various colour combinations and can be custom made basis your colour and design preference. In summers, households use these mats to lay on the floor as they are cool. These mats are also used over bed sheets, mattresses, as wall hangings, over dhurries, table runners. They can be hand washed in water and dried in the sun.
